Colour is the music of my visual world. I have lived in very colourful places, where nature has always out shone my imagination. I have stopped to look at the endless combinations of light and shade, hue and tone, pattern and plain found in a single leaf, an ancient reef, a rainforest tree or an English landscape.
Many times I've been overwhelmed by the endless possibilities infront of me. My art work has been an attempt to hold onto moment. To capture one combination of choices as they interact with the forces of gravity, light, time, dimension and chance.
I have worked in most media, but I particularly like to paint small intimate pictures and make big communal mosaics.
At a molecular level there are no hard edges between us. My paintings have been about exploring the boundaries between one life and another. Be it the life of a bird blending into a forest, or the changes I feel when something I see or hear affects me.
I like the "bigness" of the mosaic format; it is an ancient artform that has stood the test of time. Some of the world's significant art sites feature mosaic art. The surface of a mosaic catches the light and changes mood to match its environment. They encourage a sense of history creating a link between one age and another.
I have lived in Kenya, Britain, USA, Seychelles and Australia. Each place has shown how humans take control of their environment.
We shape it and tame it but we are always at the mercy of it. That is pretty much how I feel about anything I create.
Fine craftsmanship and innovative designs put Felicity's mosaics into a class of their own.
She can design and create unique and original mosaics to fit into any environment. By sourcing natural themes and local history her designs are always comfortable in their surroundings.
Felicity will work with you or your group if you have a story to tell or a space to embellish. She will create beautiful, ageless works of art that will fit into the city, park, home or garden.
